The marri cabinet is really coming together now. The careful timber selection is highlighted in the book matching on the doors and drawer fronts. This feature is consistent with the back panels of the open shelving; they are a veneered board whereas the drawers and door fronts are all in solid timber. Book matching allows for the timber to shine, especially in a piece where the overall style is uncomplicated, and is a hallmark of traditionally made furniture. The shelving unit is constructed using sliding dovetail joinery (without glueing), including attaching it to the base unit, which not only makes it secure but also allows for dismantling the piece should it need to be moved in the future. The solid timber shelves are all adjustable and held in place with heavy duty brass shelf pins.
